Wisd om teeth which come out at the side of the jaw will change your smile. They can cause recurring ear irritation throat soreness and other discomforts until they are removed. Also, wisdom teeth can cause ear pain for a longer time.

Wisdom teeth can often be left in crooked or weakened teeth due to a lack of space between your jaw and in your mouth. They are the last permanent teeth to emerge from the mouth which makes removing them extremely hard.

Impacted wisdom teeth sometimes can cause radiating pain, pain in the ear, jaw pain, sinus problems, gum disease. So many dentists advise removing the impacted wisdom teeth to prevent or to get relief from symptoms.

Symptoms of wisdom teeth

It is not compulsory that a person with impacted wisdom teeth must have symptoms every time. But some people can develop the following symptoms.

  1. Red or swollen gums
  2. Tender or bleeding gums
  3. Jaw pain
  4. Swelling around the jaw
  5. Bad breath
  6. An unpleasant taste in your mouth
  7. Difficulty opening your mouth

Some of the oral health problems, like cavity, abscessed teeth, can cause pain in the ear. Some other conditions like arthritis, stiffness of temporomandibular joint disorder, can also cause earache.

Sometimes if you grind your jaw or clench your jaw pain may be produced due to more pressure, Many people ignore the earache thinking that it may be due to some problems in the ear like earwax, ear infection.

But if you have chronic ear pain without any obvious cause you should have to visit your dentist.

Do wisdom teeth need extraction?

If you have wisdom teeth that cause the above symptoms and discomfort you can visit the dentist nearby you and take advice about it.

Wisdom teeth cause pyrexia and high-grade fever, if your symptoms get worse or having recurrent symptoms you can go through extraction surgery.

Complications of surgery for wisdom teeth

If you go through the surgery to remove the wisdom teeth, you might face the complication if precautions are not taken properly.

  • Bleeding that won’t stop for about 24 hours.
  • Difficulty with or pain from opening your jaw
  • Slow-healing gums.
  • Pain and swelling in your gums and tooth socket where the tooth was removed.
  • Damage to existing dental work, such as crowns or bridges, or to roots of a nearby tooth.
  • A painful inflammation called dry socket, which happens if the protective blood clot is lost too soon.
  • Numbness in your mouth and lips after the local anesthetic wears off, due to injury or inflammation of nerves in the jaw.
  • Rare side effects, including:
    • Numbness in the mouth or lips that does not go away.
    • A fractured jaw if the tooth was firmly attached to the jawbone.

An opening into the sinus cavity is when a wisdom tooth is removed from the upper jaw.
