Diabetes is one of the most widely spreading lifestyle diseases, affecting the whole world with a much higher rate of prevalence. India can be the capital of diabetics in a few years if we do not change our lifestyle.

What is Diabetes?

Diabetes is a lifestyle disease that causes increase in blood sugar (glucose) levels due to insulin insufficiency. Insulin is a hormone produced by the pancreas that helps regulate blood sugar level within normal range.

Type 1 Diabetes:

This is an autoimmune condition where the immune system attacks and destroys the insulin-producing cells in the pancreas. People with type 1 diabetes need to take insulin injections or use an insulin pump to manage their blood sugar levels.

Type 2 Diabetes:

This is the most common form of diabetes. It occurs when the body becomes resistant to insulin or when the pancreas doesn’t produce enough insulin. It is often associated with obesity, physical inactivity, and a poor diet. Management may include lifestyle changes, oral medications, and sometimes insulin.

Gestational Diabetes:

This type occurs during pregnancy and usually goes away after childbirth. However, it increases the risk of developing type 2 diabetes later in life.
